UH-Hilo seeded second in Western Regionals

The University of Hawai'i-Hilo golf team is seeded second behind Cal State Bakersfield in the NCAA Division II Western Regionals next week at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in South Dakota.
Led by senior Nick Mason, who won the 55th Southern California Intercollegiate and Pacific West Conference titles, the Vulcans hope to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship in Savannah, Ga., May 18 to 21.

Joining Mason, the PacWest Player of the Year, will be senior Garrett Okamura, juniors Colin Gilliam and Kevin Shimomura and sophomore Tracy Higashiyama.
The Vulcans won the Pacific West championship at Hilo Municipal last weekend.
Mason was named men's Pacific West Player of the Year, while Hilo head coach Earl Tamiya was the Coach of the Year.
Okamura and Gilliam earned All-PacWest first-team honors. Kevin Shimomura topped the second team.
Hilo's Kiilani Matsuyoshi, the PacWest women's tournament runner-up, and Mineko Kanamoto earned conference first-team honors. UHH's Kristen Higa was a second-team selection.
