Advertiser Staff
The Jennie K. Wilson Invitational and Hawai'i State Women's Golf Association Match Play Championships are seeking entries for their upcoming tournaments.
Waiakea High senior Amanda Wilson is scheduled to defend her title at the 55th Jennie K. at Mid-Pacific Country Club, May 13 to 15. Entry deadline is May 7. For details, call 262-2428 or go to www.hswga.org.
The Jennie K. is open to amateur women with handicaps of 19.4 or less.
Amanda Wilson, who recently signed to play golf at the University of Arizona, broke the 21-year-old Jennie K. scoring record by five strokes with a three-round score of 5-under 211 last year at Mid-Pacific.
Mari Chun, a Kamehameha Schools senior, also is scheduled to compete in the Jennie K.
Chun is the defending champ of the HSWGA Match Play Championship, which is June 20 to 22 at Oahu Country Club.
The match play championship is open to women with a 14.9 handicap or less. For details, call 293-8753 or go to www.hswga.org.
Castillo to defend title
Defending champion Ron Castillo Jr. heads a field that includes former winners Jerry King, Kevin Hayashi, Brendan Moynahan and Mark Seki in the 36-hole Verizon Hall of Fame Championship Sunday and Monday at the Kapalua Village Course.
Castillo, Kiahuna's director of golf, birdied the second playoff hole to beat Makena's Kirk Nelson last year.
AHA tournament set
The deadline has been extended to Tuesday to enter the American Heart Association golf tournament May 4 at the Hawai'i Prince course in 'Ewa.
AHA will partner with BMW to provide prizes, some of which have been updated from last week's article in The Advertiser.
The format is a two-person scramble with competition in A, B and C flights, as well as a BMW flight, which will be the only flight whose winner is determined by low gross.
The winner of the BMW flight will win a trip to compete in the BMW Cup nationals at Pinehurst, N.C., site of the 2005 U.S. Open.
Each member of the team also will receive an undetermined gift, not a driver as mentioned last week. BMW and AHA also will provide round-trip airfare to Pinehurst, N.C., and special hotel rates. Last week's article said only a roundtrip to the West Coast would be provided.
The company also will sponsor a hole-in-one contest, featuring a BMW 3 Series, worth about $45,000, as the grand prize.
Professional golfers will not be eligible to compete in the BMW flight or the hole-in-one contest.
Entry fee is $160 per person with a portion being tax deductible. Proceeds go to AHA. For information, call 538-7021 or go to americanheart.org.
REHAB golf on May 25
The entry deadline is Monday for the First Hawaiian Bank REHAB Golf Challenge, May 25 at the Hawai'i Prince Golf Club.
The tournament is a benefit for the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Sponsor teams are $5,000, $3,000, $2,000 and $1,500. Individual teams are $585.
The tournament features a three-person shamble format with a noon shotgun start. Each player has a minimum of three drives, each plays his or her own ball after selecting the team drive, and the lowest individual net score per hole is the team's score for the hole.
A dinner banquet follows the tournament with team prizes, lucky drawings, and silent and live auctions.
For information, call the REHAB Foundation at 566-3451 to request an entry form.
