Buffanblu, Pride win ILH II playoff openers

Cory Shin scored 13 points and Taila Autele added 12, helping Punahou rally past La Pietra, 52-48, last night in the first round of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II Championship Bracket playoffs at Damien gym.

Punahou, which was 9-1 and tied with St. Francis for first place in the regular season, trailed 15-8 after one quarter, but closed to 38-36 entering the final period.

Courtney Gaddis scored 13, Megan Berardy 12 and Elizia McGuire and Megan Giles 10 each for the Lady Panthers (7-4).

The top five teams in the regular season play a round-robin format. HBA had a bye.

Caasi Nakasone scored 18 points and Holly Saito added 10, leading the Pride (8-3) past the Troubadours (9-2) in the ILH Division II Championship Bracket playoffs at the Mid-Pacific gym.

Danielle Tanaka and Siutiti Takai scored 11 apiece for St. Francis.

Word of Life 29, University High 27 (OT)

Two free throws by Justine Sampaga with 2.5 seconds left in OT lifted Word of Life over University High in the ILH Division II consolation bracket playoffs at Damien gym.

The single-elimination playoffs include the teams which finished in sixth through 11th place.
