Mililani, Pearl City to softball tourney

Advertiser Staff

Two 18-and-under girls softball teams from Mililani and Pearl City have qualified to represent Hawai'i in the Triple Crown World Series from July 19 to 23 in Park City, Utah.

The Mililani Prep Softball Team won the Triple Crown of Sports National Qualifier, April 9 and 10 at Central O'ahu Regional Park. The Pearl City Pearls finished second.

The tournament was the first Triple Crown girls fast pitch national qualifying tournament held in Hawai'i. The first- and second-place teams received berths to the Triple Crown, according to the tournament's rules.

In the championship game, Mililani Prep defeated the Pearl City Pearls, 1-0. Liane Horiuchi drove home the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning in support of winning pitcher Tina Noga. Noga and Sarah Weisskopf combined on a two-hitter.
