ISLE FILE
Baldwin to forfeit two baseball games

Advertiser Staff

The Baldwin High School baseball team will forfeit its two scheduled games against Lahainaluna this week after an altercation following Tuesday's practice resulted in one player being removed from the team and others being suspended.

The Bears, who were 12-0 in the Maui Interscholastic League, forfeited last night's game against the Lunas and will do the same for tomorrow's scheduled game.

Baldwin principal Steve Yamada said last night the Bears will play their final two regular-season games, against Maui High next Thursday and Saturday.

"But the team is on (school) probation, because they gotta know we're not going to tolerate behavior like this," Yamada said.

With the one player being removed from the team and others being suspended from game action, Yamada said Baldwin did not have enough eligible players to field a team against Lahainaluna.

The Bears could have clinched one of the MIL's two state tournament berths with a victory over Lahainaluna (6-8), but now must defeat Maui (11-2) at least once or have Kamehameha (10-4) lose at least once to Seabury Hall (1-12) to secure a state berth.
