No one was injured, but the fire caused $150,00 worth of damage, $110,000 to the structure, and $10,000 to the contents.

Honolulu firefighters responded to a 1:24 a.m. call at 94-115 Pupukahi Street and found a second story, two-bedroom apartment completely engulfed. The building is a two-story walkup with six units. Two adults and three children, ages 9, 6, and 2, were home at the time the fire started.

HFD Capt. Kenison Tejada said the father felt the heat from the fire in his bedroom, woke up, and was able to herd is family out the door to safety.

Three adults and five children, living in the apartment below, were displaced because of water damage. The Red Cross is helping both families, Tejada said.

"It turned out OK, they lucked out," said Tejada. "We should all count our blessings."

There was no evidence of a working smoke detector in the apartment, Tejada said.
