Affordable summertime outings

spacer

Who said dates had to be expensive? Here are some hot — and cheap — date ideas for this weekend:

  • Pack two lunches (and sunscreen) and go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.

  • Take a walk along a torch-lit Kuhio Beach at sunset, stopping for ice cream along the way.

  • Find a new hike at www.hawaiitrails.org and go exploring.

  • Hit Dave & Busters with some cash and a lot of competitive fire. Loser pays for dessert.

  • Take a dog — or just visit a few — at the Hawaiian Humane Society. Then get shave ice at Waiola Store in McCully after.

    VIRTUAL NAPKINS, PLEASE

Don't let your boss see you when .... swoosh! A culinary masterpiece flies right into the e-mail of the guy at the next desk. The second he opens it, SPLAT! He gets a virtual pizza, right in the kisser. (You can also toss spaghetti and meatballs, chocolate milk, ketchup and mustard, via e-mail, at friends, family, enemies or innocent bystanders.) Just click on virtual food fight at www.virtualfoodfight .com, pick your culinary curve ball and let 'er rip.

    FINAL WORD

"It goes right on the handlebars."

David Letterman, after giving Lance Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France winner, a white basket decorated with gaudy plastic flowers and a sign saying, "7 Time Winner."
