Capri pants. Mascara. Bold colors with clean lines.

Those are some suggestions from a New York fashion consultant for golfer Michelle Wie, the 6-foot, 15-year-old golfing phenom.

The Honolulu Advertiser asked Kim-Van Dang (pictured above right), president of KVD NYC Inc., a Manhattan-based consulting firm, for her opinions of Wie's appeal and marketability in a question-answer session.

Prior to starting her firm, Dang was IN STYLE's beauty director for six years and oversaw all aspects of the magazine's beauty coverage.

A graduate of Southern California, Dang also was the beauty director at Good Housekeeping and beauty features editor at Women's Wear Daily.

Q. How much appeal would she have in the fashion world?

A. She's beautiful and she looks great in clothes. Very few athletes can make the transition into the fashion realm, but a few, like Michelle and Maria Sharapova, have a good shot.

Q. What kind of products could she endorse besides golf equipment and golf apparel? Earrings? Skorts?

A. I think the sky is the limit! I can easily see her endorsing soft drinks, cars (that a golf bag can easily fit into!), beauty products, designer wristwatches, you name it!

Q. Would you have any fashion advice for her?

A. She should find a great stylist to help pull clothes for her, but she should only wear what she really loves. Her own personality should shine through — that's key. She should also consider (not cutting, but) wearing her hair in different ways. That will get her a lot of coverage in beauty/fashion magazines.

Q. What complements her appearance the best?

A. She would look most elegant and striking in bold colors and elegant, clean lines (no patterns and no ruffles!). Her makeup looks should be healthy and pretty, not heavy and obvious.

Q. What's her best qualities? How should she enhance them?

A. She's incredibly graceful and a very positive role model for women. She should always play up that side of herself. Maybe she should take up a cause meaningful to teenage girls.

Q. What are her worst qualities? How can she improve them?

A. I haven't seen any yet.

Q. Any tips you would suggest for her makeup, hairstyle (layering?), earrings?

A. Change is good — just not drastic change. I like the earrings. It's good to have a trademark early on in a career. Think Alicia Keys with her braids at the piano.

Q. Anything to enhance her looks?

A. Mascara is always good!

Q. Anything work better on the golf course than a skort?

A. Capri pants are cute!

Q. How would you rate Michelle Wie's marketability compared to the other female athletes, such as Danica Patrick, Maria Sharapova, etc?

A. She's on track to be the next Tiger Woods. I think she's more marketable than anyone right now, especially given her age and her Asian heritage.
