HILO, Hawai'i — Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with a July 25 robbery and assault of tourists at Rainbow Falls in Hilo.

The arrests bring to four the number of suspects charged in the case. A fifth suspect remains at large.

Police said a group of males accosted an Arizona couple at the popular scenic spot, punching and kicking a 31-year-old man while stealing his camera and grabbing a purse from the visitor's 31-year-old female companion. A 52-year-old California man videotaping the incident was then assaulted by members of the group who stole his video camera. Police said the suspects also threatened the man's 45-year-old wife and took her camera.

Spenser Jordan Feary, 18, of Hilo, and a 17-year-old male were arrested about an hour later after a car chase with police.

The latest suspects to be arrested are Dustin Charles Howell, 21, of Paradise Park in Puna, and a 17-year-old boy. Howell was charged with second-degree robbery and misdemeanor theft, and was being held yesterday in lieu of $55,000 bail. The teenager, charged with two felony counts each of robbery and theft, was sent to a detention center on O'ahu.

An 18-year-old Keaukaha man, Stephen J. Whitney, is wanted for questioning in the robbery. Police said Whitney also is the subject of an arrest warrant for contempt of court in an unrelated case.

Anyone with information on Whitney should call Detective Lucille Melemai of the East Hawai'i Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 961-2377, the police nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311, or CrimeStoppers at (808) 961-8300 in Hilo or (808) 329-8181 in Kona.
