2006 Mercedes tickets on sale

Tickets for the 2006 Mercedes Championships are on sale.

The tournament, at Kapalua's Plantation Course on Maui from Jan. 2 to 8, is open only to players who won on the PGA Tour in 2005.

Some of the players scheduled to play include Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, David Toms and Stuart Appleby.

A pass to all days of the tournament, including practice rounds, is $55 through Dec. 19. After Dec. 19, the price increases to $80.

Practice rounds are scheduled for Jan. 2 and 3, with the pro-am on Jan. 4. The tournament goes from Jan. 5 to 8.

On Maui, tickets can be purchased at all golf shops at the Kapalua Resort, the Honolua Store, the Logo Shop, Honolua Surf Company, the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center information booth and the J. PLANTATION COURSE OPENS AFTER ALTERATIONS

The Kapalua Resort's Plantation Course reopened Monday after course improvements.

The course has added Ultradwarf TifEagle greens, as well as re-contouring several greens to allow for more hole locations.

In addition, 30 fairway bunkers were renovated and new bunkers were added on Nos. 15 and 16. Also, tee area on holes 2, 4, 8, 11 and 17 were expanded and the 15th fairway was reshaped.

A GPS system was also added to golf carts to provide yardage from anywhere on the course.Ka'anapali junior programs set

The Ka'anapali Golf Courses are offering a summer junior golf camp that will run from Monday to Thursday.

The camp will go from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ka'anapali lessons facility. The cost is $50 per player.

Also, through August, juniors can play the course free after 11 a.m. if accompanied by a paying adult.

WAILEA GOLF CLUB PROS VOTED TOPS IN STATE

Two Wailea Golf Club teaching pros were voted by their peers as the best golf teachers in Hawai'i, according to the August issue of Golf Digest.

Eddie Lee and Tim Mitchell, both Class A PGA instructors, were ranked first and second in the state, respectively, in Golf Digest's newest list of the top golf teachers in the Islands.

Rankings for teachers in every state were determined based upon responses to ballots distributed to more than 1,000 teaching professionals who were asked to review their peers on a grading scale.

Lee also was named Assistant Professional of the Year in 1999 by the Aloha Section PGA.

Coral Creek Golf Course will be the site of a free Demo Day on Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from Hogan, TaylorMade and Wilson will introduce new equipment.
