DAMIEN BAND GETS JAPAN TRAVEL GRANT
The Damien Memorial School Band will perform in October with bands from around the world at the Mie Kobunsai High School Cultural Festival in Japan, thanks to a $37,000 grant. The grant does not cover all expenses, however. Band members also will travel to New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

OHA DISTRIBUTES FUNDS TO 4 GROUPS
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has awarded the following grants:
KA'ALA FARM WINS CAMPBELL MONEY
The James & Abigail Campbell Family Foundation has awarded Ka'ala Farm a $25,000 grant. Ka'ala provides an immersion experience to O'ahu fourth-graders. Students work in the lo'i kalo (taro paddy) and learn the art of kapa making, about native plants and the art of fishing and caring for the ocean's resources.
FIRST HAWAIIAN AIDS BAPTIST SCHOOL
First Hawaiian Foundation has awarded a $150,000 grant to Hawai'i Baptist Academy to help construct middle school facilities on land adjacent to the campus. The new campus will complement the historic homes of upper Nu'uanu and will be designed to conserve energy resources.
QUEEN'S DONATES TO TSUNAMI RELIEF
The Queen's Medical Center has donated more than $20,000 to the American Red Cross Hawai'i for Indian Ocean tsunami relief. Queen's staff held a week of fundraisers, including a bake sale, barbecue lunch and craft sale.
AB FOUNDATION ASSISTS HOSPITAL
The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation has awarded a $10,000 capital grant to Castle Medical Center to support construction of a new hospital wing and renovations of existing hospital facilities.
ANGEL NETWORK RECEIVES $1,000
The Hawai'i Food Bank has awarded a $1,000 grant to Angel Network Charities Inc. to aid in the purchase of food for the remainder of the year.
EK FERNANDEZ HELPS YMCA
EK Fernandez Shows has donated $10,000 to the Honolulu Armed Services YMCA's Injured and Fallen Hero Fund.
PEOPLE'S FUND AIDS 11 GROUPS
The Hawai'i People's Fund has awarded nearly $18,000 in emergency and regular grants to the following community-based organizations: American Friends Service Committee-Hawai'i; Aloha Peace House; DMZ Hawai'i/Aloha 'Aina; Freedom of Information Awareness Month; GMO-Free Maui; Hawai'i Freedom Project, Japanese American Citizens League Honolulu Chapter; Ka Lei Papahi o Kakuhihewa, Mission Team on Peace & Justice; The Safe Zone Foundation; United Self-Help; United Strategies for Justice, and U.S. Japan Committee on Racial Justice.
