ROSWELL, Ga. — Honolulu's Ayaka Kaneko was eliminated in the round of 16 yesterday at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

Kaneko, a 15-year-old incoming freshman at Sacred Hearts Academy, fell to Maria Uribe, of Colombia, 1 up after Uribe seized the lead on the par-3 17th when Kaneko bogeyed. Both players parred the final hole, giving Uribe the match.

Earlier, Kaneko defeated Paige Mackenzie, of Yakima, Wash., 2 up in the round of 32. Kaneko was down a hole but won Nos. 15, 16 and 18.

Meanwhile, Morgan Pressel, the runner-up in last month's U.S. Women's Open, had to go 19 holes to beat Mina Harigae in the second round. Both had six birdies and one bogey in matching 5-under 67s, but Harigae, who beat Pressel in the Girls' Junior Championship two years ago, bogeyed the first playoff hole.

"I don't think Mina missed a fairway or a green until her drive on the playoff hole," Pressel said.

In the afternoon, Pressel won 4 and 2 over Jane Rah to reach today's quarterfinals.
