Youths to participate at national camps

Fourteen soccer players from Hawai'i were selected to the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program's Region IV player pool.

Each player began the process by attending HYSA's ODP Island District Tryouts on their home island last year. They were then selected to attend HYSA's State Selection Camp held on O'ahu during this past spring break.

The players selected to represent Hawai'i recently attended US Youth Soccer's Region IV ODP Camps in either Boise, Idaho, or McMinville, Ore.

Based on their selections to the US Youth Soccer Region IV player pool, Kirsten Adams, Kaitlynn Holt and Meleana Shim were invited to US Soccer's Under-14 Girls National Camp in Concord, Mass., Monday to Aug. 14.

Reed McKenna was invited to the US Soccer Under-14 Boys National Camp that started Sunday and runs through tomorrow in Middlesex, Mass.

The following players were selected to Region IV Pools:


GIRLS

Born in 1990: Chaney Lopez, Erin Rementer

Born in 1991: Kirsten Adams, Kaitlynn Holt, Meleana Shim, Lauren Wong.


BOYS

Born in 1988: Daniel Phelps

Born in 1989: Zane Dydasco, Keoki Haole, Ariel (Kekoa) Osorio

Born in 1991: Jared Domingo

Born in 1990: Chance Bukoski, Cody Felipe

Born in 1992: Reed McKenna

STATE YOUTHS TO COMPETE AT HERSHEY

Six youths from around the state will compete at the 28th Hershey's Track & Field Games tomorrow at Hershey, Pa.

The participants are: Kayla Taulapapa, La'ie; Blake Asing, Kailua; Roulairen Wilson, Maui; Michael Iervolino, Kailua; Andrea Hinkle, Ho-nolulu; and Blaine Bastatas, Kane'ohe.


KITEBOARDING


MOLOKA'I CHALLENGE SET FOR AUG. 13

The Moloka'i Challenge, a kiteboarding race from Maui across the Pailolo Channel, will be held Aug. 13.

The race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at two buoys near the Embassy Suites Hotel on Maui's upper west side, and will finish at Moloka'i's Kaunakakai Harbor, approximately 30 miles.

Entry fee is $125 per person, and teams of two or more are recommended.

The fee includes a race rash guard, rescue, lu'au and post-race party, ferry passage back to Maui, container space over and back.
