$2,000 SUPPORTS CANCER RECOVERY

The Hartwell and Rebecca Carter Fund of the Hawai'i Community Foundation has given the American Cancer Society a $2,000 grant to support the expansion of Road To Recovery services in West Hawai'i.

The primary objective of the Road To Recovery program is to ensure that West Hawai'i residents are able to complete their cancer treatment. Volunteers drive cancer patients in need to their doctor's appointments; in some cases taxi fare is reimbursed.


SCHOOL GETS HELP FOR BUS SERVICE

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has given Ka Waihona o ka Na'auao Public Charter School a grant that will provide one-third of the money needed to establish free bus service to the school for the children of the Wai'anae Coast. Students from Makaha to Ma'ili are served.

OHA has also awarded the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation a $25,000 grant to be used toward the purchase of new computer equipment or for upgrades to its current system.


$5,000 BACKS RAINFOREST SHOW

Alexander and Baldwin Foundation contributed $5,000 to Ohi'a Productions for its "Voices of the Rainforest" 2005 touring show that visited Hau'ula, Waipahu, Nanakuli, Benjamin Parker and Kahalu'u Elementary Schools, all Title 1 schools.

The show takes students deep into the rainforest to discover the native plants and creatures that are Hawai'i's natural treasures.
