Mari Chun and Cyd Okino, who won the first two women's majors of the year, are planning to play in the final major when the State Stroke Play Championship tees off Tuesday at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament ends Thursday. Play starts at 9 a.m. each day.

Stephanie Kono won the past two stroke play titles. She shattered the tournament record two years ago, winning by 12 shots with a total of 4-under-par 212.

Kono is heading for Germany Thursday and cannot play. After winning the Westfield Junior PGA Championship last month, the Punahou sophomore was invited to play in the Harder's German Junior Masters, in Frankfurt Aug. 14 to 16.

Chun, headed for Stanford on a golf scholarship, has tied for second in this event the past two years. She won the Jennie K. at Mid-Pac in May and captured the state match play last year.

Okino became the youngest match-play champion this year, at age 11. The Kaimuki Middle School seventh-grader doesn't turn 12 until December.

Kayla Morinaga, a Sacred Hearts graduate heading for Portland State, shared second with Chun last year and is entered again. The small field also includes a few golfers no longer in school, including Bobbi Kokx, Bev Kim, Marcie Rudich, Ku'ulei Ka'ae and Sanae Vierra.
