A 27-year-old Nanakuli woman was arrested yesterday morning after police reported finding what appeared to be a "Molotov cocktail" and an empty gas can in the car the woman was driving.

A witness had reported seeing a suspicious vehicle near Farrington Highway and La'aloa Street on Saturday, about the time a brush fire broke out there.

The car police stopped yesterday matched with the one reported on Saturday and the driver resembled the description given to police by the witness. A brush fire on Saturday came within feet of several homes in the Ko Olina area, but did not result in any damage to them.

Police reported finding a beer bottle containing what appeared to be gasoline and a wick protruding from it in the woman's car after she was stopped near Nanakai Gardens about 10:30 a.m. yesterday.

She was then arrested for suspicion of possession of a prohibited explosive device and an unrelated contempt of court warrant.

Police said the woman posted $300 bail for the warrant and was released without charges in connection with the explosive device pending further investigation.

Man arrested for threats, firing gun into air

A 24-year-old Aliamanu man was arrested last night in Kalihi after he allegedly threatened to shoot a 49-year-old man and then fired a handgun several times into the air.

Police were called to a home in the 1800-block of Kamehameha IV Road about 8:30 p.m., where they arrested the suspect for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, reckless endangering and failure to properly store a firearm.

No one was injured during the incident.

Youths arrested for burning public restroom

Two boys, ages 15 and 18, and a 16-year-old girl were arrested yesterday afternoon as suspects in the malicious burning of a public restroom at a public park in Mililani.

Police said a park user hear an explosion and saw the three youths running from the area.

The park user called out to the three and ordered them to stop, but only the 18-year-old boy complied, police said.

They said the park user "interrogated" the youth, who admitted to helping set the blaze.

The three suspects were later released without charges, pending further investigation.

A dollar estimate on the damage done to the structure was not available.
