Get in the swim
Calling all swim advocates! The American Red Cross, Hawai'i chapter, needs volunteer water-safety instructors and helpers for its free Summer Swim and Summer Buddies programs.
The goal of the program, which has been offered on O'ahu for about 40 years, is to reach out to those who can't afford swimming lessons to ensure water safety for families throughout Hawai'i.
To volunteer, call the Red Cross at 734-2101, ext. 4 or visit www.hawaiiredcross.org.
MIND AT PEACE
A life of love, peace and confidence is well within your reach, says Susan Jeffers, author of "The Little Book of Peace of Mind:"
Go around obstacles. We can learn a lot by watching water. It flows downstream rather than struggling to push upstream, as many of us are doing in life.
Give back. Whether it's contributing time or money to a charity or sending a thank-you note. There's no question that giving feels great.
FREE THE TREES
GlobalStewards.org offers eco-tips on creating a tree-saving home:
Print documents on once-used or bleach-free, recycled paper with highest waste content available.
Create and use note pads from once-used paper.
Leave messages for family members or roommates on a reusable message board.
Make your own cards or letters from once-used products or handmade paper.
