HILO, Hawai'i — An 84-year-old Hilo woman died yesterday after a neighbor backed his car into her while she was weeding a yard on Wailuku Street.

Big Island police said Fumiko Iko died at 5:15 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center, about a half-hour after the accident. Police said Iko was kneeling down at the edge of her neighbor's driveway when a 68-year-old man reversed from the driveway in a 1990 Ford sedan and struck the woman.

Her death is the 21st traffic fatality on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 25 at the same time last year.
