New bank given OK to start here

The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Division of Financial Institutions, has granted Pacific Rim Bank preliminary approval to operate in the Islands. It will be the first new state-chartered bank since 1959, said Commissioner Nick Griffin.
Pacific Rim Bank also has applied for deposit insurance with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s San Francisco office. Austin Imamura, the bank's chief executive, has said the company hopes to begin operating on Nov. 1 with 15 to 17 full-time workers.
HAWAIIAN AIR DELAYS REPORT
The parent of Hawaiian Airlines will delay the release of its earnings for the second quarter 2005 until next week.
Hawaiian Holdings Inc., which planned to submit its quarterly results yesterday, filed for an extension with the Securities and Exchange Commission to release of its second quarter earnings on Aug. 15.
The report will contain the consolidated results of the parent company and the airline, which emerged from bankruptcy protection in June.
NTT DOCOMO TO AID MARATHON
NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile telecommunications company, has become a sponsor of the Honolulu Marathon.
In addition to providing a cash sponsorship for the Dec. 11 race, NTT DoCoMo said it plans to provide real-time information about the progress of marathoners to its more than 50 million mobile phone subscribers in Japan. A company spokesman wouldn't say how much DoCoMo paid for the sponsorship.

COURT ENDORSES DISNEY DECISION
Disney won a major victory Tuesday as a Delaware court ruled that company directors adequately looked out for shareholders' interests in 1995 when they endorsed CEO Michael Eisner's decision to hire his former pal Michael Ovitz as president then, 14 months later, approved his firing with a $130 million severance package.
