TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Veronica Mars," 7 p.m., CBS. Here's the final week of CBS' worthy experiment, trying to find fresh viewers for a dandy show on its sister network, UPN. CBS viewers, bitter about losing "Joan of Arcadia," should like "Veronica." It offers many "Joan" elements — except, of course, the God character. Again, there's a smart teen who feels like an outsider at school (the talented Kristen Bell plays her). She also works at her dad's detective agency. Tonight, Logan's mother is missing. Veronica helps, while working on two other cases.

"Mantle," 5 p.m., HBO. A richly layered documentary. Growing up in an Oklahoma mining town, Mickey Mantle was the prototype American hero. Everything — the name, the look, the team (New York Yankees) — seemed ideal. He also was staggered by injuries and by his own temptation to party heavily in New York. A flawed hero, he had his noblest moments as he was dying.

OF NOTE

"Nora's Hair Salon" (2004), 4 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Jenifer Lewis stars in this comedy as the saucy owner of a beauty salon. Tatyana Ali co-stars in a cast that mainly has newcomers and brief glimpses of Bobby Brown, Lil' Kim, Lil J and Whitney Houston.

"Arrested Development," 7 p.m., Fox. Four more reruns from this Emmy-winning show. The first three center on Michael (Jason Bateman). He has troubles with a lost love and needs a loan from a fitness guru, played by Martin Short. The fourth has Gob seeking revenge.

"Hope & Faith," 7:30 and 8 p.m., ABC. Faith (Kelly Ripa) is causing trouble in both reruns. In the first, she and Hope (Faith Ford) have a catering service. Hope does the work and Faith socializes. In the second, she convinces Hope that her husband might be cheating and that they should spy on him.

"Crossing Jordan," 9 p.m., NBC. Jordan and Bug head to Mississippi, seeking justice in a 40-year-old case.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. The young daughter of a brilliant mathematician (Neil Patrick Harris) is kidnapped by clowns at her birthday party.

"Monk," 10 p.m., USA Network. Is Monk's beloved wife really dead? Tonight, he has doubts when it turns out she might be a suspect in a murder he's investigating.
