West O'ahu majors roll into regional semifinal

Four pitchers combined on a four-inning no-hitter and Vonn Feao batted 2 for 2 with a homer and three RBIs as West O'ahu routed Dimond-West, Alaska, 10-0, yesterday in the Little League Major (ages 11-12) Northwest Regional.
West O'ahu, the No. 2 seed, improved to 4-0 and will face No. 3 seed Murrayhill, Ore., today in a semifinal game.
Quentin Guevara, Alakai Aglipay, Ty Tirpak, Kaeo Aliviado and Michael Memea struck out a batter in one inning of work at San Bernardino, Calif.
West O'ahu is batting .569 (62 for 109) with 13 home runs and has outscored its opponents 69-13 in the tournament.

KALANI ROUTS NEVADA IN LEGION REGIONAL OPENER
Randy Kitagawa pitched a three-hitter and Kalani scored 12 runs in the seventh inning of a 17-0 victory over Nevada yesterday in the American Legion Western Regional at Las Vegas.
Kitagawa, who walked two and struck out eight, faced only 24 batters.
Neale Asato, Darren Takemoto, Kasey Ko and Joshua Markwith each drove in three runs for Kalani, which plays California today at 2 p.m. (HST).
PEARL CITY ADVANCES TO LL JUNIOR WORLD SERIES
Alika Pruett pitched a two-hitter and Carlton Tanabe batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs as Pearl City beat Southern California, 5-1, yesterday in the Little League Junior (ages 13-14) Western Regional championship game at Forest Grove, Ore.
Pearl City advances to the World Series starting Sunday in Taylor, Mich.
In a first-round game, Pearl City will play USA East on Monday.
HILO OUSTED FROM RIPKEN WORLD SERIES
Okeeheelee (Florida) rallied from an 8-1 deficit to defeat Hilo, 11-10, in eight innings and eliminate the Hawai'i team from the Cal Ripken World Series for 10-year-olds at Russellville, Ark. on Wednesday.
Hilo (3-2) scored six runs in the third inning to take an 8-0 lead, but Okeeheelee came back with a run in the bottom of the third and four in the fifth inning to close to 8-5.
Hilo scored a run in the top of the sixth, but Okeeheelee scored four more runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 9.
With the game tied after seven, Hilo scored in the top of the first extra inning, but down to its last out, Okeeheelee's Lane Bloom hit a grounder that got past the third baseman to drive in the tying and winning runs.
VOLLEYBALL
HPU 8TH, CHAMINADE 20TH IN PRESEASON POLL
Hawai'i Pacific University and Chaminade begin their 2005 women's volleyball seasons ranked eighth and 20th, respectively, in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Last season, HPU won its second consecutive Pacific West Conference title and advanced to the West Region semifinals, finishing 21-4.
HPU returns five starters from last season's squad, including PacWest Player of the Year Vera Oliveira. Also returning are first-team selection Barbara Martin, second-team selection Flavia Brakling, and honorable mentions Paula Koikopolous and libero Mahea Rawlins.
Chaminade advanced to the West Region semifinals and finished 17-7. The Silverswords return second-team selection Nikolina Rastovac.
BOXING
WBO BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE ON LINE SEPT. 6
Thailand's Ratanchai Sor Vorapin is scheduled to defend his WBO world bantamweight championship at the Blaisdell Center Arena on Sept. 6.
Vorapin will take on Pedro Malco Jr. of the Philippines in the main event of a boxing card titled "Night of the Hawaiian Punch."
Vorapin is 63-8 with 42 knockouts, and has won 17 consecutive bouts. Malco is 13-10 with five knockouts. The bantamweight division is for fighters at 118 pounds.
Several Hawai'i boxers are scheduled to fight on the undercard, including Dustin Kim, Michael Balasi, Travis Tandal and Kaleo Kwan.
The card must still be approved by the Hawai'i State Boxing Commission.
