Church feasts at Greek Festival

spacer

Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Pacific will celebrate the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos "God Bearer" and Ever Virgin Mary at its Greek Festival, set this year for Aug. 27 to 28 at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Beach Park.

The festival will run from noon to 9 p.m. both days.

The Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas, dean of the cathedral, notes that the feast day commemorates the repose "dormition, assumption, and in Greek — Koimisis (falling asleep)" of the mother of Jesus and her transference or assumption into heaven.

The religious feast day is Monday, with services through August and a special service that day.
