Bring on the birthdays

Stocking up on greeting cards? Professional organizer Cyndi Seidler shares tips on hgtv.com on how to get them in order:

  • Designate a calendar specifically for birthdays. Mark the days in festive colors.

  • Use a notebook binder as a greeting-card center. Fill out information on the people who will get cards that month on the pocket front. Keep the greeting cards in the jacket pocket. Use 12 jackets, one for each month.

  • List all greeting-card occasions on a sheet and keep it in a binder or someplace handy.

  • A shoebox or other container and card stock can be used to organize the months of the year, with the greeting cards filed in order.

    SAVE THE PLANET

    REUSE INSTEAD OF RENEW

Products that can be reused are cheaper in the long run than those you throw away and buy over and over again. A family can save $1,000 each year by buying reusable and long-lasting products. Earth911.org offers these green tips:

  • Use washable plates, cups and silverware for parties and picnics instead of disposable products.

  • Use an electric razor or hand razor with replaceable blades instead of disposable razors.

  • Use a mug for morning coffee and eliminate a foam or plastic cup every day.
