Cooperating on school makeover
Hawai'i 3R's |
Kapunahala Elementary School's cafeteria got a facelift when the Navy's VP-47 Squadron and other community volunteers joined forces Aug. 6 to paint the building's interior and exterior.
The effort was supported by a grant from the Hawai'i 3R's program and the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. The $128,434 grant also covered replacement of carpet, floors, doors and lockers; and improvements to drainage in a football field and parking lot.
The two organizations have formed a partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps Base Hawai'i to fund repair and maintenance projects at O'ahu schools 'Ahuimanu, 'Aikahi, Enchanted Lake, Kailua, Kane'ohe, Kapunahala, Mokapu, Pope, Sunset Beach and Waiahole elementary schools; Castle and Kalaheo high schools; and Kahuku High & Intermediate School and Waimanalo Elementary & Intermediate School.
The partnership expects to complete 14 projects by summer's end.
