KALANI IN LEGION FINAL

Kalani held off Arizona, 5-3, yesterday to advance to today's championship game of the American Legion (ages 18-under) Western Regional in Las Vegas.

Kalani (4-0) took advantage of Arizona miscues to score three unearned runs, and reliever Eric Muraoka pitched out of ninth-inning trouble.

Kalani scored three runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. One run scored on a wild pitch, another on a throwing error and the third on Marc Factora's single.

Kasey Ko, who hit an RBI double in the third, scored on a passed ball in the eighth to make it 5-2.

Muraoka replaced starter Allen Komori with the bases-loaded on no outs in the top of the ninth. He got one batter to hit into a fielder's choice grounder with a run scoring, a second to fly out and a third to hit into a game-ending fielder's choice grounder.

California and Nevada-Host, whose game was rained out yesterday, will play today with the winner advancing to the final. Kalani would need to win just once to earn a World Series berth.
