Police were called to the bus stop where they arrested the man on suspicion of interfering with the operator of a public transit vehicle.

The woman, 32, told police the man approached her from the opposite direction, grabbed her purse and ran.

Police said an on-duty patrol sergeant saw a commotion, followed the suspect into an alleyway off Kapi'olani and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree theft.

Man accused of threatening witnesses

A 23-year-old Kalihi man was arrested in District Court yesterday after he allegedly threatened a man and two women who were called to testify as witnesses in a court proceeding involving the suspect's brother.

Police said the witnesses — a 20-year-old man and two women, ages 18 and 24 -- were called to court to testify at a preliminary hearing for the suspect's brother, who is facing felony theft charges.

Police said the suspect was arrested at 1:15 p.m. after he tried to intimidate the witnesses in hopes they would not testify against his brother.
