SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Alaka'i Aglipay and Michael Memea each homered and scored twice to stake West O'ahu of 'Ewa Beach, Hawai'i, to a big early lead and a 7-1 win over Council Rock-Newtown of Newtown, Pa., in the opening game today of the Little League (Majors, ages 11-12) World Series.

Aglipay's first-inning homer with a runner on first base just cleared the left-field foul pole to give West O'ahu (1-0), the Northwest region champs, a 2-0 lead. Three batters later, Vonn Fa'eo followed with another two-run homer to left off Council Rock-Newtown starter Keith Terry, Jr.

West O'ahu extended its lead to 7-1 after Memea's three-run homer to center field in the third.

Council Rock-Newtown (0-1) struggled at the plate, managing four hits off West O'ahu. Daniel Denton scored the only run for Council Rock-Newtown, the Mid-Atlantic champs, with a second-inning homer.

Shortstop Ryan Hartley, son of Council Rock-Newtown manager Bill Hartley, injured a knuckle on his right hand after being hit by a pitch while attempting to bunt and had to be removed from the game.

Aglipay, who pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to help West O'ahu win the regional championship, was pulled after the first inning.

Council Rock-Newtown's best chance to rally came in the fifth inning, but Michael Tentilucci was thrown out after taking off from second base on a hard-hit fly ball to left by Blaise Lezynski that resulted in a double play.

West O'ahu had outscored its opponents 87-19 coming into the game.
