Kailua's Altima captures 14-under softball crown

Altima of Kailua won the girls 14-and-under division at the softball Triple Crown All American Championship in Rio Rancho, N.M., last month.

Ariel Silva doubled in Tiffany Pereza in the bottom of the last inning to lift Altima to a 4-3 win over Oklahoma Moore Stars in the championship game of the tournament, which ran from July 20 to 24.

Altima went 7-1 in the tournament. Hillary Uekawa hit .550 with 13 RBIs in eight games, Chelsea Kamai .455 and Pereza .429. Pitcher Amber Waracka was 5-1.

Other team members were Tatum Tokuda, Kelcie Watson, Mele Fraga, Keline Yoshimura, Chante Tesoro, Shelbi Yamada and Amanda Vegas.

Altima was coached by John Uekawa. He was assisted by John Vegas, Kalei Kamai, Kaleo Pereza, Damon Yoshimura, Jeff Tokuda and Doug Waracka.
