O'ahu reaches U.S. final of Ripken World Series

O'ahu scored six runs in the first inning then held off Bronx, N.Y., 6-3, yesterday in the Cal Ripken (ages 12-under) World Series at Aberdeen, Md.

O'ahu, which improved to 5-0 in the 15-team tournament, will play Lexington, Ky. (4-1) for the U.S. championship today. The winner advances to tomorrow's tournament championship game against either Mexico or the Dominican Republic.

Kash Kalohelani capped O'ahu's first-inning rally with a two-run triple. Kewby Meyer also tripled in a run, and Gavin Okada, Cory Quiamzon and Jordan DePonte contributed RBIs.

Kalani Lagoc-Crawford worked the first two innings to earn the victory.

Meyer pitched the sixth to earn the save.

In the other U.S. semifinal, Lexington beat Willamette Valley, Ore., 5-0, as Trevor Gott and Devin Jackson combined for 12 strikeouts.
