Honolulu police arrested a man yesterday who they say may be responsible for a string of bank robberies.

They arrested the 52-year-old man after a Chinatown bank on North King Street was robbed yesterday morning. Police said the man, who fit the robber's description, was seen jaywalking just after the Chinatown bank was hit.

The robber approached a clerk at the Bank of Hawaii in Chinatown and demanded money. After being given a undisclosed amount of cash, he fled on foot.

Although the bank worker did not see a weapon, the robber said he had a gun.

An all-points bulletin and description of the man were broadcast on the police radio.

Immediately afterward a police officer spotted a man fitting the robber's description jaywalking across Vineyard Boulevard. He attempted to stop the man, who fled toward Foster Botanical Garden.

The man was arrested at South School Street and Nu'uanu.
