Slamming Aces reach final of team event

The Hawai'i Slamming Aces yesterday advanced to the final of the World Team Tennis National Championship (18-younger) at San Diego by winning two matches.

Hawai'i will play the Southern region today for the title.

Hawai'i beat the Middle States region, 42-36, and the Southwest region, 43-32, in the semifinals yesterday.

On Friday, it beat the Pacific Northwest and mixed section.

In the head-to-head match-ups, eight matches are played and each game counts as one point.


BASKETBALL

CENTRAL MEDICAL WINS

John Lane scored 24 points, and George Gilmore and Cord Anderson each added 20 as Central Medical Clinic beat Honolulu Ford, 121-112, last night in the College Summer League championship at Manoa Recreational Gym.

Jason Carter scored 31 and Justice Sueing added 30 for Honolulu Ford.


GOLF

PLANOS QUALIFIES

Lori Planos shot a 77 yesterday at the 2005 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur at The Dunes at Maui Lani.

Planos, a three-time USGA champion, advances to the 19th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, Sept. 10 to 15, at Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Richmond, Texas.

Bobbi Kokx finished second with an 81. Lisa Judge was third with a 93.

HAWAI'I 11TH AT HOGAN

Hawai'i junior golfers shot an opening-round 235 yesterday for 11th place at the Eddie Hogan Cup at Riverside Country Club in Portland, Ore.

Northern California leads with a 218.

Hawai'i's top golfer is Henry Park, who shot a 77. He is 10 shots behind the leader.
