Cornerback Kenny Patton might miss the University of Hawai'i football team's Sept. 3 season opener against Southern California after undergoing surgery last night to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Patton is considered to be the Warriors' best cover defender.

UH coach June Jones said the recovery period is between four days and four weeks.

Patton suffered the injury last week, and he underwent surgery last night at The Queen's Medical Center.

Keao Monteilh will replace Patton at left cornerback.
