When the mercury rises, we all scream for ice cream. Americans' favorite flavor? Vanilla, by far. Rounding out the top five are chocolate, neapolitan, butter pecan and chocolate chip.
The difference between gelato and sorbet? Gelato contains sweetener, milk, cream, egg yolks and flavoring served in a semi-frozen state. Sorbet contains no dairy ingredients.

'VIRGIN' IS NO. 1
Steve Carell scored as a leading man, with his comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" taking in $20.6 million to debut at the top of the box office. Opening in second place was Wes Craven's airplane thriller "Red Eye," which raked in $16.5 million, according to studio estimates. The two new movies bumped the previous weekend's top flick, "Four Brothers," to third.
