Suspect wields knife, punches girlfriend

A 24-year-old Mo'ili'ili man was arrested yesterday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses following a 1 p.m. altercation with his former girlfriend at her Nu'uanu apartment.

Police said the woman told them the ex-boyfriend came to her apartment, began to argue with her and hit her in the head.

She said she fell to the floor and that the man straddled her stomach, put one of his hands over her mouth to keep her from screaming and took out a knife, waving it in front of her face and upper body, resulting in cuts to her arms and upper chest, the woman told police.

At one point, the suspect dropped the knife, a struggle ensued and the her ex-boyfriend punched her in the head several times when she began to scream, the woman said.

She said the suspect ran out of her apartment and went to his mother's home on Kewalo Street.

Police said the suspect's mother called to report the incident.

An ambulance was called to the former girlfriend's apartment to tend to her injuries, but she declined treatment, police said

The ex-boyfriend was arrested at his mother's apartment for suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, kidnapping, second-degree assault and abuse of a family or household member.



Homeless woman arrested for stealing checks

A 37-year-old homeless woman was arrested at the Kane'ohe police station at approximately 11:10 a.m. yesterday for allegedly stealing checks from a 70-year-old man whose home she had helped to clean.

Police said the relatives would unwittingly cash the checks for the suspect and then turn the money over to her.

They did not say what amount of cash was involved.

The suspect was located yesterday, identified and arrested for suspicion of second-degree forgery.
