Police were looking for one of two men suspected of burglarizing a Mililani business about 1:20 a.m. today.

A witness told police he saw one of the men enter the business and called 911. The witness said he then got a friend of his who works at the store to go into the building with him to try to detain the man that had gone into the store.

The suspect managed to get out of the store and got into a waiting car. The two men who tried to hold the suspect at the store then tried to keep the get-a-way car from leaving, but the man they detained briefly inside the store shoved the driver out of the car, got into the driver's seat and drove off.

Police arrested the man who was shoved out of the get-a-way car for suspicion of second-degree burglary and released him later pending further investigation.

Officer punched during assault complaint

Police arrested a 54-year-old man in Makiki last night after the man allegedly punched one of the officers in the eye while the officer was investigating an assault complaint.

The officers were called to an apartment building on Heulu Street about 11:10 p.m. and found the assault suspect hiding in the bathroom of one of the apartments. Officers ordered the man several times to come out, but he refused.

One of the officers went in to arrest the suspect and was punched in the eye, resulting in a small cut and redness to the officer's left eyelid.

Suspect arrested for kidnapping, sexual assault

A 42-year-old man, who allegedly held a woman he formerly dated against her will for near 24 hours and sexually assaulted her, was arrested yesterday evening in Wai'anae.

The woman, 26, told police she voluntarily met with the suspect at about 8 p.m. Saturday and got into an argument with him. She said the man physically restrained her and drove her to his friend's home, where he sexually assaulted her.

The woman managed to escape about 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon and called police who arrested the suspect for suspicion of kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault.

Man robbed while walking down street

Police are checking on a report filed by a 40-year-old man who said a man, who appeared to be in his 30s, robbed him at gunpoint last night while the two men walked on the sidewalk along Maunakea Street.

The victim told police a stranger approached him between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. and asked for directions. The victim said the man walked next to him for a while making small talk, but suddenly pulled out a handgun, shoved him up against a wall and demanded his wallet.

The victim told police he handed over his wallet and that the robber ran away.

Police said the man who was robbed reported the incident two hours later.
