Advertiser Staff

Travis Nishioka caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kiran Kepo'o for the go-ahead score and Mike Hirokawa rushed for 217 yards to help lift Iolani to its first state football title with a 34-20 victory over Radford in the Division II championship game at Aloha Stadium tonight.

Iolani, of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, finished 9-4. The victory gave Wendell Look his 100th victory in his 15th season at Iolani. Radford, of O'ahu Interscholastic Association, finished 9-2.

Iolani led 17-13 at halftime. Alex Daniels' 1-yard TD run and Jamie Whitworth's PAT in the third quarter gave Radford a 20-17 lead with 2:06 to go. But the Raiders, starting on their 20 on the ensuing kickoff, drove down the field in four plays to score. Hirokawa's 56-yard run set up Nishioka's TD with 1:15 to go in the third quarter.

Iolani's Kody Adams hit his second field goal of the game and Hirokawa scored on a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Kepo'o completed 13 of 19 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniels finished with 30 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
