"First Shot: The Secret Submarine Attack on Pearl Harbor," a 23-minute documentary produced by Hawai'i Pacific University advanced video students, will premiere Sunday at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center, Pearl Harbor.

The public is invited to the free screenings at 6 and 7:15 p.m.; seating is limited, and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The video also will be broadcast at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on KFVE television.

The documentary, commissioned by the Arizona Memorial, tells the story of the encounter between a Japanese submarine and the destroyer USS Ward just before the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. "First Shot" includes re-enactments, old footage, interviews with Ward and Japanese naval veterans and footage of a 2002 discovery that confirmed the sinking of the Japanese sub.
