Brigham Young-Hawai'i outside hitter Yu Chuan Weng has been named the Daktronics NCAA Division II Volleyball National Player of the Year.

Weng, a senior from Hsinchu, Taiwan, led the nation in kills with 6.91 per game while recording a .308 hitting percentage. She set a BYUH record with 636 kills this season.

Weng, who was recently named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America first team, helped the Seasiders to a 20-5 record and an appearance in the NCAA II Tournament.

She finished her career as BYUH's all-time kills leader with 1,768.

Hawai'i Pacific middle blocker Barbara Martin was named to the second team, and HPU setter Vera Oliveira was picked for the third team.

Weng was joined on the first team by setter Laura Bellinger (14.36 assists per game) and outside hitter Vanessa Ferretti (5.69 kills per game) of North Alabama, which has placed eight players on the team over the years.

Also on this year's first team are middle blockers Erin Gudmundson (4.27 kills per game) of Nebraska-Kearney and Li Yi Zhi (.439 hitting percentage) of Lock Haven (Pa.), opposite Jessica Lucia (602 kills) of Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) and libero Jocelyn Decker (7.12 digs per game) of Millersville (Pa.).
