How do you avoid going home from the tree lot with a Charlie Brown Christmas tree?

Start with the "freshness test," say the experts at Home Depot:

  • Look for a tree that is uniformly green.

  • Pull a few needles, shake the tree and inspect the limbs. The needles shouldn't come off easily.

  • Needles should be flexible, moist, sticky and fragrant when crushed.

    HOME-STYLE DECORATIONS FOR YOUR TREE

When it's time to spruce up your spruce tree, rather than buying new ornaments, consider going green by reusing items lying around your house.

The National Wildlife Federation suggests these:

  • Old jewelry

  • Small stuffed animals and dolls

  • Cookie cutters

  • Holiday cards

  • Family photos

  • A string of popcorn or cranberries.

    FINAL WORD

"Whenever negativity creeps into your mind, remember two things: You are the one who is creating the negativity with your own thinking. But more important, you have the power to stop it."
