Advertiser staff

A 26-year-old man who was arrested yesterday morning as a suspect in several assault cases was hospitalized in critical condition later in the day after he was found unconscious in a holding cell at police headquarters.

Police said the man was arrested on Hotel Street after allegedly assaulting several people at a North Pauahi Street apartment building.

At the time of the arrest, the man was combative toward the officers and others in the area, police said.

The man was restrained and had no injuries when he was brought to the receiving desk at the main station although he appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol, police said.

Police were told that the man had been drinking all night with a friend prior to the incident.

Police looking for man tied to alleged beating

Police last night continued to look for a 33-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped and assaulted his former girlfriend in Pearl City yesterday morning.

The woman told police when she got into an argument with the man about 8 a.m. he threatened her with a firearm, beat her and refused to let her leave.

The woman later escaped and took herself to a hospital. Police were called and spotted the man near his home, but he fled before police could detain him. He had not been located as of this morning.
