Flying like an eagle — all the way to Germany

TRADE WINDS: Marek Lieberberg, a sometime Maui resident who was the presenter of The Eagles' four shows at the Blaisdell Arena last week as well as tonight's sell-out at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, is on a roll. He left town after Saturday's finale here to return to his Germany, where he is overseeing a continuing tour of the hit ABBA musical "Mamma Mia," which resumes production in Frankfurt tomorrow night before continuing to Berlin and Vienna over the next two months. Also, he's promoting a Michael Buble Germany tour this week. ...

Lieberberg also is presenting Motley Crue Dec. 14 at the Blaisdell Arena; Lieberberg a kingpin of rock show tours throughout Europe. ...

Speaking of the Crue: Tommy Lee is doing a live show Dec. 13 at the Pipeline Cafe; he will be joined by DJ Aero. Tickets: $15 general, $40 for VIP seating. Advance tickets are on sale at Jelly's Music, 926-3000 and www.presaleticketsonline.com. ...

NAMES 'N' FACES: Audy Kimura, the resident singer-composer at Hy's Steak House, has won a Composer's Special Award from ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers) for his work in 2004-05. The $2,000 prize is given for distinguished work by members; Kimura has composed commercial tracks for The Honolulu Advertiser, TV shows such as "Hawai'i Goes Fishing" and "Hawai'i's Kitchen," and projects for KGMB-9. He also co-composed the original score for Vilsoni Hereniko's acclaimed indie film "The Land Has Eyes," screened at the Sundance Film Festival and the Hawaii International Film Festival, among others. "It's been a good year, and I'm so grateful to everyone who made it possible," said Kimura. ...

Jenn R, a Tahitian dancer, has been tapped as the Aloha Island Roots Cover Girl and will be shown on the Quiet Storm CD cover for "Island Roots, Vol. 6," due in March, according the label's John Iervolino.

ITEMIZATIONS: Derek Bentley, son of Lou and Manu Bentley, recently made his operatic debut, singing the roles of Luther/Schlemil in the Repertory Opera Company's "Les Contes d'Hoffman (The Tales of Hoffman)" at the Wilshire United Methodist Church. Dad Lou, a makeup artist, continues to work with Tom Selleck (dating back to the "Magnum P.I." days), finishing filming of the third "Stone Cold" in Nova Scotia for CBS. ...

Larraine Koike of Pono the Poi Dog Productions recently lunched with Cesar Millan, host of Geographic TV's "The Dog Whisperer," and his wife, Illusion, at L'Uraku. The couple loved the Islands, so, not surprisingly, another visit is planned next year. ...

Genoa Keawe, who performed last Friday at the Hawai'i Convention Center, is incredibly tireless. On a recent Saturday, she attended a morning and an afternoon funeral, went to see her granddaughter perform at a Maori festival, played an early-evening birthday gig, visited one of the mourning families again, then popped in on Jerry Santos and Olomana at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Home by 1:30 a.m., she was ready for church at 7:30 a.m. Sunday with her son Eric's family. ...

Arlene Tanaka, former secretary to Danny Kaleikini, noted on an eBay auction (now pau) that a seller had listed Kaleikini as "the late," as in deceased. She quickly demanded a correction, mentioning that Kaleikini was one of the living 100 Honolulans recently honored, and the fix was ultimately done — in a footnote. ...
