Boy, 16, struck by car, critically injured

A 16-year-old Kane'ohe boy remained in critical condition this morning at The Queen's Medical Center after being hit by a car yesterday evening while trying to cross Kamehameha Highway in front of Windward Mall.

Police traffic investigators said the boy was crossing the highway from east to west about 130 feet south of the intersection with Haiku Road when he was hit about 7:15 p.m. by a 1999 Mercury Cougar driven by a 39-year-old Kane'ohe woman.

Police said there is no crosswalk where the boy was crossing. The boy sustained multiple body and head injuries and was taken to Queen's in extremely critical condition.

The Cougar driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but may have been speeding at the time of the collision, police said. It had not been determined whether the boy was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.



Woman robbed on Waikiki beach

A 21-year-old woman told police she was robbed last night while walking on the beach on Waikiki.

The woman said she had reached the area fronting the beach wall at the Sheraton Waikiki hotel about 11:10 p.m. when a man walked up behind her, pressed something against her back and demanded her purse and jewelry.

The victim told police she thought the robber had a gun so she complied with his instructions. She was unable to furnish a description of the robber, police said.



Man confesses to sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl

A 20-year-old Kailua man walked into the main police station on Beretania Street yesterday and confessed to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on Monday, police said.

They said the suspect is acquainted with the victim and lived in the same household with the victim and her family.

The victim was taken to the Sex Abuse Treatment Center following the alleged assault, police said.

The suspect was charged with first-degree sexual assault.



Woman arrested for car break-in

A 31-year-old Kapalama woman was arrested yesterday after two men reported seeing her break into a car in Kalihi.

Police said one of the men told officers he saw the woman breaking into his friend's car about 4:40 p.m. and called the friend.

The two men told police they saw the woman searching through the car and detained her until officers arrived to arrest her for suspicion of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.



Man confesses to connection with assault

A 20-year-old man turned himself in at the Pearl City Police Station yesterday in connection with an alleged assault that took place in Waikiki two months ago.

A 22-year-old man told police he was leaving a party at a hotel when he was assaulted by four men. His injuries included a broken eye socket, swelling to his left ear and numerous bruises, cuts and scrapes, police said. The suspect who turned himself in about 1:30 p.m. yesterday was arrested for investigation of second-degree assault.
