Two auditions, one for a Disney theatrical show and the other for hula dancers in Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom's forthcoming Japan tour, offer out-of-town work in the months ahead.

The Disney production is "Aladdin," at Disney's California Adventure.

Actor-singers are sought for the romantic lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine, as well as for Genie and Jafar, comedic character and villain of the piece. The open call is for specific types and voices:

  • Aladdin — Charismatic male with good physique, a baritone/ tenor voice, with youthful charm and appeal of an 18-year-old.

  • Jasmine — Beautiful, exotic soprano, with classic Disney princess presence, and an independent, feisty demeanor to portray an 18-year-old.

  • Genie — A male, 26 through 40, able to carry a tune and carry off celebrity impressions and improvisations, switching character in a blink.

  • Jafar — A male, 33 to 55, at least 6 feet tall and with a bass/baritone voice and a menacing presence.

Auditions will be held noon to 6 p.m. tomorrow and 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday at Ballet Hawaii headquarters, Dole Cannery, 650 Iwilei Road, second floor. Candidates should bring a photo and resume and perform an audition song appropriate to the role. John Bryan will provide accompaniment. For more information, call Elissa Josephsohn Public Relations at 732-7733.
