From Swarovski crystal-covered baubles to a 2006 Year of the Dog tribute, the Christmas ornaments offered up for bid in The Honolulu Advertiser's "Creations for a Cause" fundraiser hold wide-ranging appeal.

The fundraiser, in its third year, is gearing up for another round of online bidding. Last year, the project brought in $1,072, and in its first year it raised $665.

The most popular piece last year proved to be a miniature feather lei encased in a glass ornament — a jewel made by master feather artist Mary Lou Kekuewa and her daughter, Paulette Kahalepuna. It sold for $250.

The six artists this year include an oil painter, a mixed-media artist, a silk-screener and a woodworker, all of whom graciously volunteered their time and talent to create one-of-a-kind holiday pieces.

The artists have done their part — the rest is up to you.

Proceeds will go to the Advertiser Christmas Fund. Donations are used by Helping Hands Hawai'i to assist those who need immediate help with rent, utilities or food.
