  • The board of directors of the Consuelo Foundation, headquartered in Honolulu, has named GERI MARULLO president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 3. Marullo is the president and chief executive officer of Child and Family Service, the largest private nonprofit social service organization in Hawai'i. The Consuelo Foundation, with a branch office in the Philippines, awards about $6 million annually to help women and families in Hawai'i and the Philippines with domestic abuse and other issues.

  • The Better Business Bureau of Hawai'i has promoted BONNIE HORIBATA to director of operations. Besides overseeing daily operations of the bureau, she will assist in program development; serve as staff liaison to various board committees and external agencies; and administer membership standards, the alternate dispute resolutions program, advertising reviews and investigations. Previously, Horibata was the bureau's operations manager.

  • Honolulu endodontist DR. WADE NOBUHARA has been named 2006 president of the Hawai'i Dental Association, which represents more than 90 percent of Hawai'i practicing dentists. Other officers include president-elect, DR. CARL KOBAYASHI; vice-president, DR. DARRELL TERUYA; treasurer, DR. RIICHIRO SATO, and secretary, DR. GARY UMEDA. The association also sponsors continuing education courses, provides free services to low-income populations; and acts as a legislative advocate on behalf of dentists.

  • KMH LLP (originally Karns Murakami and Hanashiro) has announced the hiring of ALTON A. MURAKAMI as a senior manager in its Tax Compliance and Advisory Services Division. He previously was an attorney with the law firm of Carlsmith Ball and a tax senior manager at KPMG LLP.

    Also joining the firm are SHINTARO KANAZAWA, YAN LU, REGINA AKPINAR and VETTE MATSUMOTO.

  • Island Insurance Cos. has named BEVERLY AMENT as senior vice president, Underwriting Services Division. She will be responsible for management and underwriting of all commercial and personal insurance. She was previously vice president and general manager of the Commercial Insurance Division at Island Insurance.

  • First Hawaiian Bank promoted DEAN C. DUQUE to branch manager in Lahaina. Since joining the bank in 1993 as consumer loan collections account representative, he has held positions as loan representative, personal banking officer and small-business loan officer. MICHAEL T. NISHIDA, has been promoted to vice president and manager, PC and Network Services. He joined First Hawaiian in 1992 as a programmer. Also, the bank promoted the following to assistant vice president in various departments: MONTE M. MITCHELL, Loan Recovery Department; BRIAN M. ASAMOTO, Applications and Database; CHRISTINE M. HARAUCHI, PC and LANs.
