Limited water use urged on Wai'anae Coast

Advertiser Staff

Crews are repairing a 24-inch water main that broke this morning on Farrington Highway, and officials are "strongly urging" Wai'anae Coast residents to limit water use to essential needs only, a Board of Water Supply news release said.

Essential needs include uses such as drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.  Residents affected are in the areas from Honokai Hale to Makaha. This main supplies water to the entire Leeward Coast.

The break, which was reported at about 7:45 a.m., is located on the pipeline at 92-500 Farrington Highway near Ali'inui Drive, the release said.

The far right lane of town-bound traffic will remain closed throughout the repair, and special-duty police officers have been requested, the release said.

Work is anticipated to last into tomorrow. The pipe currently under repair is 44 years old, and is the subject of a main replacement project.
