POLICE BEAT
Year-old stolen car case solved

Advertiser Staff

A 36-year-old Makakilo man was arrested last night on the grounds of the former Barbers Point Air Station after police determined the car he was driving was reported stolen a year ago.

A police officer pulled the man over about 11 p.m. near Enterprise and Wright streets because of an expired safety sticker. While checking with police dispatchers, the officer learned the serial number on the safety sticker and the tax emblem on the license plate did not match the vehicle.

The officer then ran a check based on the car's vehicle identification number and found an 18-year-old woman had reported it stolen in December 2004.

The driver was then arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and fraudulent use of a license plate.

Debit card theft reported

A 14-year-old Wai'anae boy was arrested yesterday after allegedly using his mother's debit card without her permission to withdraw money from an automated teller machine.

The mother told police the boy used the money to buy "gifts" for himself. Police said the mother confronted the boy about the gifts and then called police to file a complaint against the boy, who was arrested about 2 p.m. on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Man accused of forgery

Things went from bad to worse yesterday for a Wai'anae man who was arrested initially on a contempt of court warrant about 7:40 a.m. on Kapi'olani Boulevard.

While the man, 29, was being booked at police headquarters on Beretania Street, his personal belongings — including the cash in his wallet — were being inventoried when police reported finding counterfeit bills in the man's wallet.

He was then arrested for suspicion of first-degree forgery.

Women report sexual assault

Police yesterday were investigating a complaint filed by two 19-year-women who said they were sexually assaulted by two men, both of whom appeared to be in their 20s.

The women told police they met the men in Waikiki and invited them back to their hotel on Kuhio Avenue, where they were assaulted sometime between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Police had made no arrests in the case as of this morning.
