GIRL SCOUT BOARD ADDS 4 MEMBERS

Several local business leaders have joined the board of directors of the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii. They are: Beadie Dawson, CEO and general counsel of the Dawson Group; Chris Hart, landscape architect and president of Chris Hart & Partners Inc., a landscape architecture and planning company; James Kerr, creator of local computer services company SuperGeeks; and Theresia McMurdo, public relations manager for The Estate of James Campbell.

MOOKINI HONORED FOR LANGUAGE EFFORTS

The Hawaiian Historical Society's Pa'a Mo'olelo Award was recently presented to Esther T. "Kiki" Mookini in recognition of her efforts to preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian language. She helped to keep the language alive when there was little or no interest in perpetuating it.

KAPOLEI LIBRARIAN CALLED STATE'S BEST

The Friends of the Library of Hawai'i have selected Mary Ann Collignon as 2005 Public Librarian of the Year for the Hawai'i State Public Library System. She is the young-adult librarian at Kapolei Public Library.

In addition, three finalists will receive monetary awards. They are: Janet Lam of Thelma Parker Memorial and School Library on the Big Island, Cynthia Frazer of Kailua Public Library, and Stewart Chun of the federal documents section of the Hawai'i State Library.
