Baby struck and killed by falling tree branch is identified

Associated Press

The baby girl who died Sunday after a tree branch fell on her was identified today as 13-month-old Rylee Egbert of Kailua.

Rylee, who was being carried by her father, was struck by the branch as they were hiking along the Maunawili Trail in Windward Oahu.

The father was not seriously injured.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office said the baby was pronounced dead at the emergency room of Castle Medical Center where she was airlifted by a rescue team.

Strong winds are believed to have caused the branch to break off the tree.

The National Weather Service had issued a statewide high wind advisory early Sunday, warning Hawai'i residents to drive carefully as winds of 30 mph with gusts above 50 mph hit the isles.
