Kaua'i kids get national exposure in magazine

Advertiser Staff

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Children from West Kaua'i are featured in the latest edition of two publications put out by Time magazine and distributed to 132,000 classrooms nationwide.

The students are shown on the cover of the "Go Places with TFK" travel editions sent out with TIME for Kids six times each year. Eight-year-old Taylor Lazaro is in the "News Scoop" edition aimed at children ages 7 and 8, and Bronsen Hiraoka, 12, is in the "World Report" edition aimed at 9- to 12-year-olds. Both are students at Waimea Canyon School. Kaua'i freelance writer Jeannie McCabe interviewed the students and local photographer Ron Kosen took their pictures.

Taylor is shown dancing hula, strumming an 'ukulele, playing tetherball, making dinner and working in school. Bronsen is blowing into a French horn, leaning on his bodyboard with friends, and playing baseball.

"We chose kids who represent Hawai'i. Who you'd most likely find in Hawai'i and nowhere else. Bronsen and Taylor were perfect choices," said Claudia Atticot, a writer with TIME for Kids, which has a combined readership of 3.3 million.

The sections include articles about Hawai'i, legends and maps. Some of the coverage is at timeforkids.com/gphawaii.
